Overview

This full-day tour offers guests an incomparable insight into a picturesque and richly historic landscape. Heading out of Vienna, the tour travels west towards the town of Melk, home to Austria’s most impressive Baroque Benedictine Abbey. Guests can join a boat ride along the Danube at this point, boarding at Melk and disembarking at Dürnstein. Whichever route your tour takes, you will find yourself passing through villages amongst wine terraces clinging to the steep hills behind them, until you eventually reach Dürnstein, famous as the site of the legend of Richard the Lionheart’s imprisonment and the troubadour Blondel who found the King and arranged for him to be freed. From here, passing through medieval towns beside the Danube, you soon reach Krems, at the heart of the Wachau. The evening will be spent at a Heuriger, one of the region’s famed wine taverns, after which the tour will return to Vienna.
